One Night Only: A Poetry Showcase
Los Angeles, CA: On March 23, 2013, PEN Center USA & Stories Book & Café will present

ONE NIGHT ONLY: A Poetry Showcase at The Echo (1822 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90026). Doors will open at 6:30 PM. The reading will begin at 7 PM and feature sets by Brendan
Constantine, Mayda del Valle, Jeremy Radin, Jon Sands, and Beau Sia.

Brendan Constantine is a poet based in Hollywood. His work has appeared in FIELD, Ploughshares, Rattle, ZYZZYVA, the Los Angeles Review, and other journals. His most recent books are Birthday Girl With Possum and Calamity Joe. He teaches poetry at the Windward School and is an adjunct professor at Antioch University Los Angeles. He also conducts workshops for hospitals, foster homes, and with the Art of Elysium.

Mayda del Valle has been described by the Chicago Sun Times as having “a way with words. Sometimes they seem to flutter and roll off her lips. Other times they burst forth like a comet streaking across a nighttime sky.” A proud native of the South Side of Chicago, she has appeared on six episodes of Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry on HBO and was a contributing writer and original cast member of the Tony Award-winning Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam on Broadway. She also toured with Norman Lear’s Declare Yourself spoken word tour, a non-profit, non-partisan project created to encourage young voter registration for the 2004 presidential elections. She has appeared in Urban Latino, Latina Magazine, Mass Appeal, The Source, the New York Times, and was named by Smithsonian as one of America’s Young Innovators in the Arts and Sciences. O, The Oprah Magazine chose her as one of twenty women for the first-ever “O Power List,” a group of visionary women making a mark in business, politics, and the arts. In May of 2009 she was invited to perform at the White House for President Obama
and the First Lady.

Jeremy Radin is a poet and actor and eater of fancy cheeseburgers. You may have seen him on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, CSI, or Victorious if you're twelve. He co-hosted The Lightbulb Mouth Radio Hour with Derrick Brown and Mindy Nettifee, was a member of The Encyclopedia Show Los Angeles, and has performed his poetry at venues all over Southern California. His first book, Slow Dance with Sasquatch, is available from Write Bloody Publishing.

Jon Sands is a Brooklyn-based author known for his electrifying readings. He wrote The New Clean and starred in the award-winning web-series “Verse: A Murder Mystery” from Rattapallax Films. He is an adjunct professor with the City University of New York, a Youth Mentor with Urban Word NYC, and heads two separate writing programs for Bailey House in Harlem, an HIV/AIDS service center. His work has been published or is forthcoming in Rattle, The Millions, Word Riot, Muzzle, Union Station, The Rattling Wall, and other cool places. He is a member of two groundbreaking live literature tours, “The Whirlwind Company” and “The SpillJoy Ensemble,” and tours extensively, both nationally and internationally. Say yes to

Beau Sia is the author of The Undisputed Greatest Writer Of All Time and A Night Without Armor II: The Revenge. He has performed his work all over the world, most notably as an original cast member of the Tony Award-winning Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam on Broadway. Beau Sia currently lives in Los Angeles, where he continues to develop as he wishes.
