Poolside (Live)
Poolside (Live)
Filip Nikolic and Jeffrey Paradise are good friends who are inspired by California, mezcal, dancing, good food, and friends. Filip is a Danish producer now living in LA who plays bass in Ima Robot; Jeffrey throws the infamous Blow Up party in San Francisco and used to be in the hardwave band the Calculators with Luke and Vito from the Rapture. Poolside's debut single "Do You Believe?" was charted by Aeroplane and Dimitri From Paris, and Dazed & Confused praised the song for its "pop-tinged disco, brimming with optimistic vocals and retro acid synths," while NME lauded its "supremely casual decadence." Poolside is currently working on their debut album.
Yacht
Yacht
YACHT is a Band, Belief System, and Business conducted by Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans of Marfa, Texas and Portland, Oregon, USA. All people are welcome to become members of YACHT. Accordingly, YACHT is and always will be what YACHT is when YACHT is standing before you.

YACHT believes in reforming an adequate language by coining new words and examining the meaning of existing words. For example, Utopia means "No Place." Thus YACHT understands its quest is in movement, not a resting point. For example, "I" is a story we tell ourselves. Thus YACHT seeks the undifferentiated collective experience.

YACHT understands that to feel part of the world is to be engaged in creative activity. However, creative output is powerless without contact with a spectator, who completes the creative act and brings it into contact with the world by registering its existence and interpreting its value.

YACHT believes art and spirituality are inseparable; both are concerned with the creation of something from nothing, with form without antecedent. The feeling or moment of creation is a kind of spiritual high that can be achieved by anyone with the willingness to transmute an idea into form. When we create something, we relive the first spark into consciousness of both the microcosm (ourselves) and the macrocosm (our universe). Art is ontological birth. No religious culture is without an image-making culture. In more ancient religions, the making of images is the spiritual act itself.

YACHT seeks to explore frontiers and to expand awareness of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (ETI). There is nothing marginal about acknowledging the greater possibility of life in the cosmos; it is chauvinistic, beyond the pale, to imagine otherwise.

YACHT believes that in the province of the mind, there are no limits. Every person is the master of their own neurological experience. Our minds contain the universe, by the act of comprehending it.

YACHT encourages the testing of these ideas in the laboratory of your own nervous system.

YACHT knows that to confront the world without ideas is to see the formless void.

YACHT encourages online dissemination of all things.

YACHT believes "Free Wi Fi" is not an advertisement of services, but a political statement.
Kisses
Kisses
"The sunny but sad dance music from this LA duo suggests Bernard Sumner jamming with Belle and Sebastian. ... Just behind Gorillaz, Foals and RJD2 in a list of the most blogged-about current acts, according to the Hype Machine, are Kisses, a new duo from Los Angeles who specialise in a sort of dreamy, wistful disco with a hint of 70s Guilty Pleasures about it – think Oh Lori by Alessi Brothers worked up into a high gloss by Gino Soccio. The name is revealing – Kisses. It's a reminder that, while funk was about sweat and sex, disco was about yearning and romance, ie ripe for the C86 treatment." --Guardian UK
Them Jeans
Them Jeans
Jason Stewart, better known to the world as , is a rare mix of diverse interests and unforgettable presence (he is 6 ft. 8 inches tall after all!). To categorize him as merely another DJ/producer would be to understate his drive and contributions to the current musical landscape in Los Angeles and increasing influence in the global music community. He has been the driving force behind world famous club night Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace for over five years as both a DJ and promoter, helping to showcase acts as eclectic and renown as Justice, Lady Gaga, and Kid Cudi. His well thought out, genre-bending sets (spanning from house music to down tempo moody remixes) have recently seen him gaining recognition from publications such as Complex, Discobelle, and XLR8R, while expanding his fan base through recent touring throughout North America and Europe. Not content with just furthering his musical craft, Jason continues to pursue his other passions in life which include an uncanny knowledge of food showcased through Twittering and continued work as a talented graphic designer who produces much of the artwork for his releases and events. However, at the forefront of all this is his relentless work on new and distinct musical creations.
Them Jeans's passion for a wide array of genres and sounds has found its way into his productions in truly innovative ways. It would be difficult to find another artist out there who can credit remixes by Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party, Childish Gambino, Diplo, and Flight Facilities to their repertoire and have it all fit perfectly. While they may seem disparate, all of his music shares a genuine belief in crafting one-of-a-kind listening experiences that look toward challenging people's perception of mainstream music and blurring the line between dance music and every other genre imaginable. Alongside the aforementioned remixes, popular bootleg remixes done for the XX, Rihanna, Kindness, and SBTRKT are garnering national attention and radio play. In 2011, he began to host an all talk, laugh out load, and incredibly informative radio podcast "Tall Tales" featuring guests from Diplo, Lovefoxx of CSS, Donald Glover, Riff Raff, Daedalus, and Brodinski. Them Jeans is keeping on his prolific creative pace with an original EP of uniquely crafted house music due out in early 2013 (Vowel Play on No Brainer Records) and a sea of original music that should only help to solidify him as an artist not to be ignored.
Guns In The Sun DJs
Guns In The Sun DJs
The Guns In The Sun DJs are Matt Pennington, Clay Anthony, Peter Nussbaum, and Latane Hughes. These four celebration enthusiasts started throwing regular parties in West LA a few years ago, where they’ve since honed their resident skills to the point of being dragged out of their beloved Venice Beach. In recent years the "Guns DJs" have supported everyone from Azari & III to The Black Lips. The range of Artists they’ve had play their wild parties showcases their flexible and far-reaching musical taste on the decks… having hosted everyone from Classixx to Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Whether they will show up to the club with a handbag of house tunes or with a garbage sack of old soul 45s… we will never know. The only thing we do know is that vibes will be thrown.
DJ Mario Cotto
DJ Mario Cotto
Working as a KCRW DJ is a dream come true for Mario Cotto, a preacher's kid from North Philadelphia.

A former middle school teacher and improviser, Mario moved to LA to pursue a career in sketch comedy. He started volunteering at KCRW, assisting longtime DJ's Eric J. Lawrence, Jason Bentley, Chris Douridas and Tom Schnabel. Once Mario realized he was spending more time at the station than at the theater, he knew this was where he belonged.

His first 5 records were Menudo's Quiero Rock, Michael Jackson's Thriller, The Beatles' Rubber Soul, Michael W. Smith's Project and -- unbeknownst to his parents -- The Beastie Boys' License to Ill

His sound is inspired by; strong coffee, Marcel Duchamp's ready-mades, the NuYorican Poet's Café, SAMO, Philadelphia's Making Time, Blade Runner, golden-age hip hop, Manchester, Repo Records, arroz con pollo, shell-top sneakers with New Yorker laces, ESPO, Tristan Tzara's 1918 manifesto, breakfast cereal, comic books, and metropolitan railways.
