Wax Idols
Wax Idols
WAX IDOLS straddle the line between ripping tough/tender post-punk/goth-pop, and irresistibly anthemic indie rock hooks. So it comes as no surprise that the band has recently signed to Slumberland Records, with a full-length LP set to drop just days before this show. (And produced by Mark Burgess of The Chameleons, no less!) Led by the enigmatically agitated Heather Fedewa (aka Hether Fortune, ex-Hunx & His Punx, Bare Wires, and also currently a member of CastleFace Records’ Blasted Canyons).
Cold Showers
Cold Showers
COLD SHOWERS fuses the sort of dreamscape typically associated with Shoegaze to the melancholia of the Darkwave. A band who, it is mentioned in most reviews, would fit comfortably "in the dusty catalog of Factory Records," perhaps because of the talents members...and just the right revolving counterbalance piston-precise drumming ala' Steve Morris, resounding bass leads worthy of Peter Hook and the alternately complex and catchy guitarwork of a chap who could very well be the next Vini Reilly. Their debut on Dais, also is making a lot of Top Ten lists around the country this time of year...and very deservedly fucking so. And with their 2nd LP nearly completed, you can expect it to appear on those Top Ten lists for 2014 (including PTP's!)
Dream Boys
Dream Boys
Independent music from the west coast of Scotland has always had a kinship with psychedelic pop music from the west coast of America. Orange Juice loved The Byrds, Teenage Fanclub wanted to be in Buffalo Springfield, the Pastels adored the Electric Prunes. Dream Boys are a modern day trans atlantic love affair realized. Consisting of 3 americans and 1 scotsman, their songs have the spirit of postcard records filtered through the rural haze of the paisley underground. Pure pop with nods to New Zealand’s Flying Nun records and an aura of psychedelia akin to the Church. Their songs float around the notion of time and space, love and heartbreak, the highs and lows with a range of emotion and introspection. One can’t imagine these songs coming from any other band or from any other time other than now. These songs are psychedelic in the truest sense, a californian sun rises on a Glasgow street, rain fall during an indian summer, Dream Boys’ music lies somewhere in between this musical dream, in love with pop music with a sincerity unmatched. For fans of The Church, R.E.M., Rain Parade, The Chills, The Clean, The Byrds, Belle and Sebastian, The La’s, Teenage Fanclub, Big Star, etc
Drab Majesty
Drab Majesty
Ariel Pink meets Fad Gadget meets Ziggy Stardust meets Genesis P-Orridge making lo-fi darkwave dreampop post-psychedelia occult-style shoegaze on cassettes (in his bedroom). This is DRAB MAJESTY. Behold, thee Majesty, and not drab at all.
