BRONCHO
BRONCHO
Oklahoma City band BRONCHO crafts sing-along anthems that combine punk and garage-rock. You could make all the likely comparisons to punk bands of the '70s — Ramones, Iggy Pop and The Stooges — or even bring up the new-school garage-rock undertones of The Strokes and The Strange Boys. But that would sell the band short. If anything, it combines the best elements of both genres: raw guitar chords and energy, plus DIY sentiment, but with hi-fi production. - NPR

Perhaps the best debut album of 2011 came by way of BRONCHO, a garage-punk quartet from Norman, OK Frontman Ryan Lindsey is better known as the keyboardist for the Starlight Mints, but this side project has been touring the Midwest since early 2010. Can't Get Past the Lips hit stores August 2011, and "Try Me Out Sometime" was an instant standout. It's not a complex song, by any means, and the simplicity is fantastic because the execution is so strong. Three chords are plenty enough backdrop for Lindsey to yelp out the hooks. Watch the excellent music video, in which the band barges into unsuspecting, unlikely venues — stores, major intersections, a college classroom — and performs increasingly disastrous versions of the song before darting out. BRONCHO has never played a show outside a narrow corridor from Austin to Chicago, so coast-dwellers will have to cross their fingers for that to change soon. White Lung
White Lung
White Lung is a punk band. They have released four 7 inches, "Local Garbage" (Hockey Dad Records), "Magazines" (Deranged Records) , "Atlanta" (Deranged Records), "Clown Life" split 7" with Nu Sensae (Deranged/Nominal) and appeared on the Emergency Room compilation LP (Grotesque Modern/Nominal). Their first full length CD/LP "It's The Evil" came out on Deranged during the summer of 2010. Their second CD/LP "Sorry" is coming out on Deranged on May 29, 2012.

Refusing to repeat themselves, however, Lukic and Pitout have taken big risks with even bigger payoffs on this release. Proving just how unpredictable they can be, they abandoned their status as a duo — a favourite angle of both the media and fans — and recruited Vancouver noise rock great Brody McKnight as a full-time member. Previously working with the now-legendary group Mutators, McKnight has added another dimension of heaviness to the band’s already mind-melting sludge attack.
Audacity
Audacity
Audacity are a very rare band, and Mellow Cruisers is a second album that shows a band growing up whilst still retaining the things that made people fall in love with them in the first place. The angst-y vocals/lyrics, speedy guitar and drums, and melody-controlling bass are all the winning elements that Audacity pulls off, even in their young progression. Even if punk rock dies again (which would account for the umpteenth time anyways, right?), one thing that is for sure, is that Audacity are great musicians and have a serious knack for melody that stands above any dying genre. Through the friendship they’ve had with Burger Records, King Tuff, and tour-mates Natural Child, Audacity have developed through observation, an even more enamored-compass towards melody, and Mellow Cruisers perfectly showcases that. Mellow Cruisers is a successful power-punk record, that’s well-produced, well-written, and undeniably catchy and fun. - Heave Media
